Storage shelf

A storage cabinet with upper and lower double doors, combining glass doors and solid panel doors.

The upper and lower sections are made as one piece, using a hard and substantial wood, likely cherry. Over time, the color has deepened, developing a subdued and elegant character.

The glass in the upper section is original to the period. The bubbles and strong ripples characteristic of old glass add to its charm.

Originally, the doors had no handles or knobs; you would unlock them and simply pull the doors open. Since the original key was lost, a new one was made based on an old antique key. Turning the key produces a satisfying click. *Please note there is no spare key, so be careful not to lose it.

The doors are secured by latches on the top and bottom of the left side. After unlocking, lower the top latch and raise the bottom latch to open the door. To close, reverse the procedure; both top and bottom work in the same way. While it's a slightly elaborate mechanism, we hope those who appreciate this cabinet will enjoy this aspect of its operation.

Inside, shelves are provided, offering ample storage for dishes, books, and more. The lower section, in particular, has height and strength, making it suitable for storing heavy items such as art books, photo albums, and large-format portfolios.

While the overall appearance is clean and minimalist, there is subtle decoration only at the feet. This understated design evokes a Japanese aesthetic sensibility.

The main frame of the cabinet uses a joint called "kento-dome" (mitered bridle joint). The corners are neatly fitted, creating a beautiful appearance from any angle. Such fine details reflect the careful craftsmanship of the time.
